View state focused actions that enhance cooperative federalism or push back against federal overreach including: multistate lawsuits, state reports, state legislation, state court decisions, etc.

Our Criteria

The Federalism Policy Trackers are nonpartisan. Items are selected for inclusion based on a number of considerations, including:

  1. Impact​ (is the policy likely to have a significant affect on policy or to affect people's lives directly?)

  2. Media Coverage (has the policy generated attention from a range of sources, including academic analyses?)

  3. Federalism Implications (is the policy likely to affect the relationship between the states and the federal government in some measurable way?)

  4. Litigation (is the policy generating controversy, debate, legislative challenge or litigation?)

  5. User Feedback (we often include items forwarded to us by site members or social media)

  6. Follow principles of federalism as outlined by Presidents Clinton and Reagan in Executive Orders 1308313132, and 12612
