Federal Regulations play an important role when studying federalism not least because of the economic implications for business in and among the states. The delegation of rulemaking authority from Congress to federal agencies also raises a number of constitutional concerns of enormous importance to American federalism. These include matters related to constitutional interpretation, separation of powers, non-delegation of legislative authority, and the scope of independent regulatory agencies. In this dashboard, we present a selection of the most relevant dimensions of Federal Regulatory activity as it pertains to the ongoing effort to delineate a sensible, constitutionally grounded relationship between the federal government, states, local governments, and businesses.
